Green P Mobile Pay Parking is Ready to Roll Out on Toronto Streets October 24, 2016

Toronto, October 24, 2016 – Mayor John Tory and Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) today announced that customers can pay for on-street parking in Toronto through the Green P mobile app. The rollout begins this month and will be complete by the end of the year.

Mayor Tory demonstrated the convenience of the mobile pay program by paying for his on-street parking session using the Green P app on his smartphone, without leaving the car to go to a pay and display machine.

“This is all about making people’s lives just a bit easier. The Green P app is an example of how we can modernize the services the City offers and the way the City delivers them," said Mayor Tory. “The people of Toronto want a city that works at their speed, which is why I am glad to see progress that finally meets the needs of the 21st century.”

The mobile pay feature of the app gives customers the option to pay for their parking session using their smartphone, delivers reminders before parking sessions expire, and gives customers the ability to extend parking sessions remotely. All of these features will now be available to on-street parking. The app is free, meaning there is no surcharge for payments made through the mobile pay feature.

“The Toronto Parking Authority takes pride in providing the highest level of service to our customers,” said TPA Board Chair Michael Tziretas. “Extending the convenience of using the Green P app to pay for on-street parking is another example of our commitment to providing customers with a great parking experience.”

The Green P app was first introduced in March 2015 to non-gated off-street parking lots. To date, there have been a quarter million downloads, 1.5 million transactions and approximately 25% of daily transactions are made through the app.

The extension of the program to on-street paid parking is a collaborative effort between the Toronto Parking Authority, the Toronto Police Service that will enforce the rules, and Toronto Transportation Services that maintains the regulations and signage. The Toronto Parking Authority would like to thank these partners and all others who contributed time and effort to deliver this great service to Torontonians.

Similar to the 3-digit location IDs in use for Mobile Pay in the existing pay and display lots, the on-street paid parking locations in the city have been assigned 4-digit location IDs that will be visible on the pay and display machines and hours of operation (HOO) signage as the roll-out proceeds. Customers will know that the mobile pay option is available for use on a street if the location ID is visible on the pay and display machine and/or the hours of operation signage.
