Projects & Improvements

Toronto Parking Authority is home to a number of forward-looking programs that aim to improve the lives of Toronto's commuters

OUR APPROACH

The TPA’s approach to major projects and improvements are informed by 4 key strategic objectives:

Partnership With The City

We work closely with the City of Toronto to develop the governance structure and mandate needed to position Toronto Parking Authority for success.

Unlock Value & Innovate

We strive to create opportunities for the community across Toronto Parking Authority’s property footprint.

Co-Create A City-Wide Parking Strategy

We’re here to fulfill Toronto Parking Authority’s role in delivering mobility services for the city and its customers.

Expand & Diversify

We work to make Toronto Parking Authority’s portfolio of managed parking services accessible to all, including creating a stronger presence of commercial properties made up of office, hospitality and institutional sectors.

Customer & Service Improvements

Toronto Parking Authority continuously works to make commutes easier and better for the city, including:

Bike Share Toronto

Bike Share Toronto offers convenient, 24/7 access to 8,970 bikes (1,850 of which are e-bikes) and 709 bikes stations across the city. Under the Bike Share growth plan, Bike Share is expanding to all of Toronto’s 25 wards. Learn more at Bike Share Toronto.

Electric Vehicle Charging

Toronto Parking Authority is leading the expansion of EV charging stations across Toronto and has begun building an EV network in on-street and off-street parking locations. Our current network consists of 100+ off-street (garage and lot based) electric vehicle chargers and 47 on-street charging locations.

TPA has an ambitious goal of having 550 chargers up and running by the end of 2024.

Car Share

We are currently partnered with 3 car sharing companies to offer 69 car share vehicles stationed across 54 TPA car parks.

Courier Partnership

In 2022, Toronto Parking Authority was proud to announce a new partnership with Purolator for an Urban Quick Stop Kiosk at Car Park 231 (19 Spadina Rd).

Infrastructure Improvements & Projects

TPA’s Business Development and Partnerships team oversees a portfolio of projects across the city, including:

165

Commercial parking properties owned by TPA

141

Commercial parking properties managed by TPA

Working With City Partners

TPA works closely with a number of City departments and agencies in administering parking services and assisting in parking operations. City partners include Parks, Forestry and Recreation, Toronto Transit Commission, Toronto Community Housing Corporation, and Exhibition Place.

New & Upcoming Parking Facilities

In our continued pursuit of parking management opportunities, we currently operate at over 140 managed locations. TPA plans on opening 2 new parking garages over the next year associated with the North St. Lawrence Market Redevelopment, and the Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Centre & Library.

North St. Lawrence Market Redevelopment

The St. Lawrence Market Complex, which includes St. Lawrence Hall and the North and South Market buildings, has served as a City landmark for more than 200 years and remains one of the most valuable historical sites in Toronto.

The City of Toronto and St Lawrence Market are currently in the process of re-developing the underutilized North Building of St Lawrence Market, with the intention of improving the space for vendors, visitors and shoppers.

TPA will operate a 250-space garage at this new location (scheduled to open in Q2 2024).

Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Centre & Library

Named for a nearby  Huron-Wendat archaeological site, (the Moatfield Ossuary and village), Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Centre and Library is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2023.

Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Centre and Library is situated within the footprint of the larger Concord Park Place multi-tower residential condominium redevelopment at 1001 Sheppard Ave. E.
The Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Centre (CRC) will include a number of vital community services for residents living in the areas, including a 13,000 square foot Toronto Public Library branch, a 27,000 square foot Aquatic Centre, child care facilities, recreation spaces and a fitness centre with a track, gymnasium and a weight room.

The 196-parking space garage found on the lower-levels of the community recreation centre will be operated by Toronto Parking Authority.
